State of Health in the EU Cycle
The 2022 edition of Health at a Glance: Europe examines the key challenges European countries must address to develop stronger, more resilient health systems following the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. It includes a special focus on how the pandemic has affected young people’s mental and physical health. The report emphasises the need for additional measures to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from scarring a generation of young people. This edition of Health at a Glance: Europe also assesses the pandemic’s disruption of a wide range of health services for non-COVID patients, as well as the policy responses European countries deployed to minimise the adverse consequences of these disruptions. It also addresses a number of important behavioural and environmental risk factors that have a major impact on people’s health and mortality, highlighting the need to put a greater focus on the prevention of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Pandemia a avut un impact dramatic asupra vieții oamenilor din Europa și din întreaga lume. Ea a determinat o reducere cu mai mult de un an a speranței de viață la nivelul UE în 2021, comparativ cu nivelul anterior pandemiei – cea mai gravă scădere observată în majoritatea țărilor UE de la cel de-al Doilea Război Mondial încoace. Până la sfârșitul lunii octombrie 2022 au fost raportate mai mult de 1,1 milioane de decese din cauza COVID-19 în cele 27 de țări ale Uniunii Europene. Totuși, aceasta este o subestimare, iar statisticile privind mortalitatea excesivă au indicat că 300 000 de persoane au decedat în plus ca rezultat direct sau indirect la pandemiei. Peste 90 % dintre decesele determinate de COVID-19 au survenit în rândul persoanelor cu vârsta de peste 60 de ani. Impactul mortalității determinate de COVID-19 a fost cel mai mic în țările nordice (Islanda, Norvegia, Danemarca și Finlanda) și cel mai mare în țările din Europa Centrală și de Est (Bulgaria, Ungaria, Croația, Republica Cehă, Slovenia, Letonia și România).
